about

charles kennick

Hi, my name is Charles Kennick. I’m a junior double majoring in Public Administration and Anthropology with a minor in History. In addition, I am concurrently pursuing a masters degree in Political Science; concentrating in Public Administration and Policy Analysis.

I found my place on campus as a student leader during my second semester at Miami when I was elected the Secretary of the College Democrats. From there, I continued my involvement sophomore year by being elected as an Academic Senator for Associated Student Government.

Last spring, I was re-elected as an Off-Campus senator. During my time as a senator, I have fought for my constituents, and the greater student body, for greater transparency, accountability, and equality at Miami. No matter the situation, I stand steadfast to my principles and do what is right— to fight the good fight. At the same time, I put in the effort to find the middle ground between two opposing sides and hash out a compromise that best suits all parties and students.

Outside of Associated Student Government, I am the President of the College Democrats, work as a student janitor in Armstrong Student Center and Shriver, and am a member of the Governmental Relations Network.  Additionally, I have been an Undergraduate Associate for an introductory Anthropology course where I held office hours weekly to answer student questions and help students find their place in the field. I am pursuing a career in state or local public service where I want to focus on economic development and urban planning in the Rust Belt.

In my free time, I enjoy football, reading The New York Times, running, and watching both Monk and The Office. I also love listening to music. My playlists can range from Simon and Garfunkel to Kanye West to Hank Williams Sr. to Greenday on any given day.

Ultimately, I am passionate the quality of life for our community here at Miami University. I want to fight for sound and responsible policy for my friends and neighbors and as Student Body Vice President, I would achieve this for you, the student.
