Greetings! My name is Alex Boster. I’m a junior majoring in Comparative Religion and Political Science here at Miami University.

In February of 2018, my term as a Student Trustee on the Miami University Board of Trustees ended after two years. Appointed by Governor John Kasich as a freshman in college, I became a student leader and representative almost immediately after stepping onto the Oxford campus. Although very overwhelming at first, my hunger to initiate positive change was sparked after taking this role, and I have spent the last two years representing students alongside Miami University's top administrators. Being a student and an administrator simultaneously had its challenges, but I know that this role made me keen to the issues that need attention in the Miami community. With special interests in improving and addressing Miami's diversity and overall student life, I believe that serving students as their Student Body President is the next logical step to ensure that I continue my work as a student advocate.

Outside of Trustee matters, I work a campus job, am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and serve as the Recruitment Director for the Comparative Religion Student Association. Last year, I co-wrote an article alongside fellow student leaders for the Cincinnati Enquirer on alcohol over-consumption. Additionally, my independent research within the Department of Comparative Religion has opened my eyes to situations and perspectives different from my own-- sparking a passion for social justice and societal equity.

When I'm not studying or working, I am reading, traveling, or expanding my large collection of maps. Last summer, I spent six weeks in the Philippines interning with an international law firm and during that time was also able to visit Hong Kong. In January of 2017, I studied abroad in Oman and the UAE with the Miami University Department of Comparative Religion learning about the oil economies of the Middle East. I have a unique obsession with New York City and hope to live there after my adventures at Miami University are complete.

As I think about how I want to spend my last year on campus, I hope to serve others and use my efforts to better the lives for those who call Miami University their home.
